Continuing Education Information
Semi-annual SEAC meetings provide an excellent and cost-efficient source of continuing education for our members.
AAA Qualification Standards effective January 1, 2008 require 30 hours of continuing education each year for all actuaries issuing Statements of Actuarial Opinion in the U.S. A minimum of 6 hours each year must come from "Organized Activities", and attendance at an SEAC meeting counts in that category.
From the Qualification Standards published by the AAA: "For purposes of the Qualification Standards, a 'Statement of Actuarial opinion' is an opinion expressed by an actuary in the course of performing Actuarial Services and intended by that actuary to be relied upon by the person or organization to which the opinion is addressed." This definition of a Statement of Actuarial Opinion has been broadened from the prior Qualification Standards. The revised Standard will apply to most actuaries practicing in the U.S.
According to the AAA guidelines, it is the member's responsibility to keep adequate records of continuing education activity. In that regard, at a minimum, the Conference suggests that our members retain a copy of the meeting program and the attendance list whenever attending an SEAC Meeting.
